Six persons have been killed in suicide bomb attacks on Friday morning, in a failed attempt to attack the Federal High Court in Jidari Polo area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Spokesman for the police, Mr. Victor Isuku said the bombers, two females and one male, had apparently planned to inflict death on the police and other security agents guarding the court.
Another person suspected to be a member of the Boko Haram sect and two members of a vigilante group were also killed in the attack.
Mr Isuku added that the police ordered the suicide bombers to a halt for interrogation before the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated.
“In the process, one of them detonated the Improvised Explosive Device strapped to her body, killing herself and one other male accomplice,”
“The other female survivor was arrested alive and subsequently handed over to the military for further exploitation and necessary follow-up actions,” he explained.
Following the incident, police bomb disposal experts defused the undetonated IEDs on the bodies of the deceased suicide bombers.
According to the police, normalcy has been restored to the area.
