Hired assassins trail top C-River NIMASA official

…Auta Walbe, Head of Martime Environment cries out to Buhari …Says petitions to Police, DSS fruitless, points finger at powerful persons

CALABAR—THE Head of Maritime Environment, Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Cross River State, Mr. Auta Nicodemus Walbe, has raised the alarm over incessant attempts by some powerful persons to eliminate him though hired assassins. Walbe told NDV in Calabar that some suspected assassins have been on his trail for about three years, a development that has made life unbearable for him, adding that the way things were at the moment, only President Muhammadu Buhari could give directives that will save him. He disclosed that he had escaped the assassins many times and solicited relevant security authorities to come to his aid, but the hired killers were still on his trail. He claimed only Buhari’s intervention can stop them. According to him: “The matter I am involved in is very sensitive and I believe that only top security officers, through President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention, can save me from these powerful people. “Sometimes, they lay siege at strategic locations with cars that have tinted glasses, even vehicles with government number plates. For instance, I have seen vehicles with Rivers number plates severally packed by my office and at one time or the other, I have had to confront them, there was also a time a vehicle with Government House number from Plateau state was stationed close to my office, immediately I accosted them, they hurriedly left the place. “I want to use this medium to appeal to His Excellency, President Muhammed Buhari, to come to my aid because I am no longer comfortable because I have written severally to the various security agencies at the state level, including the Police and Department of State Service with no positive response till date.” Why they’re after my life He also appealed to the President to come to his aid, as he does not intend to expose the crux of the matter on the pages of newspapers, adding: “It involves some deep level of irregularities, which I ensured were not perpetrated, but some highly placed individuals, who feel they are untouchable are after my life.” Highly placed individuals His words: “I believe in due process and have never used my office for any form of graft and I have no issues with anybody that I know of, but like I said, I would not like to bring to bear the crux of the matter on the pages of newspaper, I will like the President himself to come to my aid before these powerful people will kill me. “I have served this country for 26 solid years, nobody can claim I did anything wrong , I always stand for what is right and that is why I think I am being hunted like an ordinary animal, I am appealing to Mr. President to help me before they get to me.” NDV gathered that since 2013, the NIMASA official has been relocating from one residence to another, all in a bid to escape being assassinated by the hired killers, who usually trail him from his residence to his work place almost on a daily basis. SOS In a Save Our Soul, SOS, dated August 8, 2016, addressed to Cross River State Director, (DSS), Walebe said: “My main aim of writing this letter is to intimate you about my challenge. It has not been easy for me since 2103 to date, as hired assassins have trialed me everywhere I go, I have been battling to be heard and protected but all to no avail. Right now, I only move from my security area to my office. “As we speak, I cannot move a distance from where I am if I do, they might get me, the places include 11 /11 bus stop, Stadium bus stop, Oando filling station, where they normally station government vehicles with tinted glass once I move, they move and it has even been intensified lately, please do something before it is too late,” he pleaded. I’ll investigate- C-River police boss Contacted, Cross River Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ozi Obeh Jimoh, said he was unaware of the matter, but would look into it with a view to unraveling the mysterious circumstances surrounding the claim.” A source at the DSS, who craved anonymity, told NDV that it could be inimical if the story was published, saying: “We have to debrief this person face-to-face to get first hand details on why he thinks that people want to kill him.”
